Bringing Technology to the Tye Room
Update 7.10.24 In late March 2024, four residents (Barbara Ogur, Rouzbeh Taghizadeh, Mary Day and Heather Hohenthal) formed a working group to explore the possibility of adding audio visual equipment to our community room in order to enhance meetings and presentations capabilities, as well as to provide the opportunity for our community to gather to watch movies, theatrical performances, major sporting events, and other community events.
Our committee met in mid April to discuss our objectives, identify potential solutions, evaluate each option, address potential concerns from the community and formulate a strategy to gain support and ultimately approval from the Board. A brief description of our initiative was provided to ECG and included in the May newsletter.
We created a survey to solicit opinions from our Esplanade neighbors and reached out to the ECG leadership to request the ability to post the survey on the Listserv.
After receiving an overwhelmingly favorable response from our survey, on April 27th we submitted a letter to the Board requesting time at the May 14th Board meeting agenda to present our recommendations. On the following day, we received this response from the board: ‘The Board has received your email and will review under member correspondence at the next board meeting’.
In an effort to share our recommendations with the our community, one of our committee members, Rouzbeh Taghizadeh, volunteered to give the presentation at the May 21st Esplanade Residents Group (“ERG”) meeting. Our findings and recommendations were well received by the approximately 20 residents in attendance.
A letter outlining our committee’s proposed recommendations was circulated on the ECG Listserv, with a request that residents share any comments, questions or concerns with the group or directly to any of the committee members. We also asked those supportive of the initiative if they would be willing to add their name to the letter to the Board. On June 5th the committee sent the letter to the board along with the documented support of 40 residents (Letter sent to the Board)
On June 25th we received the following response from the board : (Letter received from the Board)
At the June 27th “Be in the Know” session, John Yee, Chairman of the Board stated that he hoped that the TV could be installed in the community room by July or over the summertime.
Our committee would like to thank the ECG and the ERG, which provided a forum to communicate with our neighbors, gather and discuss diverse opinions, develop a consensus and share our plan to advocate for our shared goals.
We are looking forward to attending events in our community room as soon as the new smart Frame TV with sound bar capabilities is installed.
