This lovely reflection from Linda Felter:
I took a break from cleaning my patio and paused to look at the river. Here’s what I observed; there were a few dozen Canada geese, cormorants and gulls on the pier. There were more geese lined up on the sidewalk and walking down the ramp to the pier, and there was a bottleneck. Lol…why didn’t they just fly over? The line of geese moved slowly and didn’t mix with the others - they all walked across the pier and plopped into the water. Then, a little while later, they flew away.
It was so funny and I wondered. Were they being polite to the geese who had already laid claim to the pier? Were they just socially distancing? Or, perhaps they were simply turned off by the gobs of geese poo covering every inch of the pier?
I also noticed that the cormorants stayed at one end of the pier - all except one brave soul who held his ground in geese territory.
Nature is beautiful, interesting and funny. You never know what you’re missing.
It’s a reminder that it’s good to stop and take a look and listen to what’s around us. You never know where you might find a smile.
