Remembering Helen Sawyer
Long time Esplanade resident Helen Sawyer died on March 28, 2024. Her obituary is here.
Some remembrances from her Esplanade friends.
Helen was a dear friend. We used to play Scrabble in her kitchen. She and I used to watch TV together....she'd be in her condo and I in mine. We used to watch Jeopardy and other programs and talk later. When she was in rehab, I used to talk with her every night. She never said she didn't feel well or how sick she really was. She was always cheerful! I miss her very much and it's hard to believe she's really gone!

I got to know Helen a few years ago. We took walks together usually for an ice cream at Toscanini’s She always had something nice to say and was an example to me. Being with her made me feel good. I will miss her and am sad that she is gone.

Helen was a warm and lovely friend. I always looked forward to seeing her. I have to add that we’re biased--- she loved Walter (our dog) and would always greet him much to his delight!

I will miss Helen greatly. We played scrabble with her every Saturday night for several years.
She was a very welcome and contributing member of the Esplanade community! My condolences to her two sons and all those who knew her.

As everyone said, Helen always was warm and gracious to each person that she met anywhere in the building — in the elevator, in the garage, in the mailroom or lobby.
